COVID 19

Current Step: Step 4

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic quidditch in Victoria was suspended for the majority of 2020. This trend continued into 2021 with large disruptions to the quidditch season, resulting in the cancelling of the later half of Vic Cup. It is hoped that with increasing vaccinations rates towards the end of 2021 and start of 2022 that Quidditch in Victoria can return to a full season with minimal disruptions.

The Victorian Quidditch Association follows the four step plan for resumption of play set out by Quidditch Australia. The full plan can be found here. The steps each account for differing levels of restrictions in what can and cannot be done within the Victorian quidditch community.

Step 1a - Less than 10 people at an event, no contact, no shared equipment (including balls), 1 Club only.
Step 1b - Less than 10 people at an event, no contact, no shared equipment besides balls, 1 Club only.
Step 2 - Less than 20 people at an event, no contact, no shared equipment besides balls, up to 2 clubs.
Step 3 - Less than 100 people at an event, no contact, minimise shared equipment, Multiple clubs allowed.
Step 3b - Less than 100 people at an event, contact allowed, minimuse shared equipment, multiple clubs allowed.
Step 4 - Full resumption of quidditch

In addition to the four step plan outlined above, clubs and event organisers should make every effort to improve the health and safety of their players and attendees. These efforts should include but are not limited to:

  • Organisers must keep a record of everyone who attends an event.

  • Anyone who has had cold or flu symptoms in the last 14 days, or has had exposure to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 in should not return to play.

  • Anyone who has COVID-19 must inform Quidditch Australia and not return to play as per government regulations.

  • Anyone who has had COVID-19 can only return to play with a doctor’s certificate (sent to Quidditch Australia).

  • Return to play should be gradual for all players regardless of COVID-19 status.

Adherence to these restrictions will help Australia and Australian Quidditch return to normal faster and safely. Please remember these restrictions should be taken as minimum standards - clubs are welcome and encouraged to take as many precautions as are manageable to help protect their players and the community.
