What is quadball?
Quidditch is a mixed gender, full contact, competitive sport. First adapted in 2005 from J.K Rowlings Harry Potter series, it has since become one of the fastest growing sports around the world. The sport has evolved in the years since it’s inception, however it still keeps the fundamental concepts from the original game such as staying mounted on a broomstick and the various player positions and balls.
As the only full contact mixed gendered sport in the world, the community prides itself in it’s inclusiveness. People of all genders are welcome to compete in quidditch as is any person who identifies as LGBTQ+.
hOW TO PLAY
Quidditch is played with two sides of 21 athletes, four positions, and five balls. Played on a field about half the size of a soccer pitch, six or seven athletes take the field for each team at a time. Teams consist of one keeper, three chasers, and two beaters. Additionally, after 18 minutes of game time has elapsed, the snitch is released and each team also gains one seeker. The game is played with all players mounted on broomsticks.

The Victoria Quidditch Association is always welcoming new players to join our community! Within our league and through representative opportunities we aim to cater for players of all skill levels. We currently run an adults league (VIC Cup) for players aged 16 and over. VIC Cup is the main quidditch event in Victoria where teams battle it out one Sunday a month during the winter season (April - September). Check it out here.
Other Victorian quidditch events include come and try days specifically designed for introducing new players to quidditch. There are fantasy tournaments where you play in a mixed team with other people for the duration of the tournament, it’s a great way to have some fun and meet new people. There’s also a smattering of other tournaments such as Mudbash and breaking barriers held throughout the year. Check out the events here to see what’s coming up next.
